    Manager, Accounting and Reporting - (Maternity Leave Contract)


    This position is a key member of the Finance and Accounting team. Reporting to the Vice President of Finance, this person will be responsible for reviewing all general ledger entries and reconciliations, preparing monthly financial statements, and regulatory reporting.






    • Oversee the full accounting cycle
    • Prepare consolidated Balance Sheet and Cashflow Statements
    • Review consolidated Profit and Loss Statement
    • Prepare monthly board package
    • Maintain chart of accounts and P&L mapping
    • Check all account reconciliations
    • Review and approve all journal entries prepared by accounting team
    • Book monthly journal entries as required
    • Review individual transactions for validity and accounting treatment as required
    • Assist with budget as required
    • Manage the annual external audit exercise and be the direct liaison for all accounting and audit needs


    • Work with payroll team when needed to ensure timely payroll processing.  This, at times, requires direct system inputs.
    • Review vacation and other time off policies with the payroll team to ensure proper compliance 
    • Review and approve annual payroll filings


    • Review and approve all sales and use tax returns
    • Prepare all annual tax schedules for tax advisors
    • Review annual tax returns and submit to Senior management for approval


    • Update US and Canada franchise disclosure documents as needed
    • Renew all US franchising rights annually
    • Perform background checks on prospective franchisees
    • Issue franchise agreements to prospects
    • Advise operation managers on franchising matters
    • Work with franchise lawyers to handle legal matters as they arise


    • File all annual reports for the US entity
    • Maintain relationship with legal counsel and compile all legal documentations as required
    • Coordinate the filing of annual reports for the Canadian entities
    • Company registration in any new states that it wishes to operate
    • Manage the occurrence of legal challenges by keeping up-to-date on current and proposed legislations, enforcing accounting regulations and recommending procedural adjustments as required
    • Review corporate books annually to ensure that any outstanding resolutions are requested from the corporate lawyers
    • Review Insurance policies and answer queries as needed
    • Liaise with tax authorities regarding reviews and audits
    • Assist Senior Accountant with Insurance renewal and broker transitions as required


    • Direct supervision of Accounts Payable, Senior Accountant and Payroll staff
    • Provide direction and guidance to all staff in the finance department as needed
    • Assist with the implementation of new ERP system for the company
    • Review and provide input on new customer contracts, new vendors and other agreements
    • Any other duties as assigned




    • CPA - CMA/CGA designation
    • Minimum of 5-8 years of experience in Accounting
    • Prior experience managing a team while still having individual contributor duties
    • Advanced analysis experience, ability to interpret financial results, and strong attention to detail
    • Knowledge of franchising legislation in US and Canada
    • Sound organizational, communication and leadership skills together with excellent time management ability
    • Uses initiative and can think outside the box
    • Proficient English communications skills

    • Self-responsible and team-oriented approach
    • Advanced Excel skills
